The Post tells the story of the Pentagon Papers. The sensitive documents that were the blueprint of the Vietnam War cover-up.

When the Washington Post receives these papers, it faces two choices. Do they publish the findings and run the risk of treason? Or, do they stand down and allow the destruction of the freedom of press.

  • The Post won two academy awards: Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Meryl Streep).
  • Steven Spielberg wanted the film released as soon as possible, to keep it relevant to the growing ‘fake news’ awareness.
  • Tom Hanks actually collects typewriters and tried out every one of them in the newsroom.
  • The New York Times won the Pulitzer Prize for publishing the Pentagon Papers in 1972 (they published it before the Washington Post).
